Motorists expecting to be given a parking ticket in Dunedin's CBD yesterday may have been surprised when they got a handful of lollies instead.
Armed with sweets, the DCC's parking wardens were riding festively decorated scooters as they patrolled about 300 free parks in the centre city.
The council is offering free parking for shoppers in the CBD until Christmas Eve.
Parking officer Amanda Holland said people were initially surprised when offered sweets but warmed to the idea.
Free parking applies to on-street meters marked with a sticker but people still need to adhere to maximum time limits.
