CCS Disability Action Wellington

CCS Disability Action is a nationwide organisation, with a proud 80 years history, that provides support, advocacy and information for people with a disability. Firmly believing New Zealand is a progressive, first world country and in partnership with ThunderMaps, (a proximity alerting app development specialist), we released the Access Aware app.

The free Access Aware app allows users to see the locations of known mobility park locations on a map in real time so they can find a park when they need it. But that’s just the beginning. With the help of participating councils and private carpark providers, users can also make a report in real time, of any parking misuse they observe. Thus helping to change motorist’s behaviour and give back mobility parking spaces to the people who are legally permitted to use them.

It uses crowd sourced data so anyone can add locations and descriptions of parks not already mapped. It promotes independent mobility by driving change, not just for mobility park locations but also for other accessibility issues that our communities face. Currently there is no single place where you can easily access reliable data New Zealand wide. Access Aware is changing that, offering pre-mapped locations and information that will make accessing parking, communities, walkways, businesses, utilities, public conveniences and accommodation simple and easy. It can significantly improve everyday access issues that prevent many people from fully participating in their communities.
